For someone who hasn’t read other HIgashino novels and is intrigued by Japanese culture, Malice likely is a great ride. Lennox appreciates Tommy’s open, straightforward personality – even if he is a master thief. We know both of those answers almost immediately it’s why? The pacing is very, very slow, I do not know, how I finished reading despite of the constant torture. Meanwhile, others are dropping like flies.

It seems Tommy knew a secret, and it cost him his life. Higashino offers one twist after another, all of which touch on the theme suggested by the book’s title. I enjoyed it, but mostly because Higashino presents an unusual perspective on a classic murder mystery, the Japanese setting added to the exotic feeling. Widowed, he has recently remarried the much younger Rie, and the couple are moving to Canada.
